The Foundational Years:  1986-1994

While involved in social work and youth work in Christchurch, Sully couldn't get South Auckland off his mind. He had a heart for the youth of South Auckland and in a way he never left. After only a few years in Christchurch, circumstances brought Sully and his family back to Otara. A welder by trade, it was here that Sully started with a group of young guys and taught them to weld. From pieces of scrap metal that Sully collected, this group of youth put together a gym of DIY weightlifting machines. Soon his garage, backyard and driveway was full of weightlifting machines and a constant stream of aspiring weightlifters were keeping the equipment in use.

The early 1990's in New Zealand was marked by high unemployment and even higher youth unemployment. Sully was unable to find a full time job to support his community work and determined that he would create his own work. It was one early morning in his garage where he and Pauly Fuemana met and decided they would each do something rather for themselves than wait for someone else to do it for them. It was time to expand from his backyard and make a go at something bigger. It was from this point that Crosspower Ministries Trust was formed.
